Things to Do in Jericoacoara: The Must-See Tours

VPXtravel TeamMay 28, 20267 min read

Within just a few kilometers, Jericoacoara packs in some of the most beautiful scenery on the Brazilian coast: dunes, crystal-clear freshwater lagoons, cliffs and rock formations. This is the roundup of tours no one should skip.

Sunset at the Sunset Dune (Duna do Pôr do Sol)

This is Jeri's daily ritual. Every late afternoon, locals and visitors climb the great dune beside the village to watch the sun sink into the horizon. Arrive about an hour early to get a good spot.

Pedra Furada (the Pierced Rock)

Jericoacoara's postcard: a stone arch carved by the sea, inside the national park. At certain times of year the sun rises or sets aligned with the arch. Access is via a walk along the beach or a guided tour.

Paradise Lagoon and Blue Lagoon

Warm, shallow, transparent water with hammocks and benches set right in the lagoon. They are the perfect way to relax for a whole day - and they get even fuller and more beautiful in the rainy season. They are usually combined into the same buggy or 4x4 tour.

The Lazy Tree (Árvore da Preguiça)

A tree with a horizontal trunk leaning over the sand, which became a symbol of Jeri's unhurried rhythm. A must-stop for photos on the way to the lagoons.

Tatajuba and the dunes

On the other side of the destination, Tatajuba offers giant dunes, Torta Lagoon and the famous sand "toboggan" slide. It is a full-day tour, usually by 4x4, with a ferry crossing over the river.

Buggy, 4x4 or open-truck: how to choose

  • Buggy: nimble and fun, ideal for couples and small groups.
  • 4x4 / UTV: rugged for heavier sand stretches and larger groups.
  • Open truck (jardineira): an adapted truck, the most affordable and laid-back option, great for families.

Each vehicle covers similar routes with a different experience. See the types, durations and prices on the Jericoacoara tours page and sort out your arrival with a transfer. To build a complete trip, check out the packages too.
